Devotional Gatherings

Prayer is the daily nourishment of the human soul and an integral part of Bahá'í life, whether at the level of the individual, the community, or the institutions. One of the main principles of the Bahá'í Faith is to associate with members of all religions. Baha’u’llah wrote: “consort with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship”. One of the manifestations of this practice is holding regular prayer gatherings involving all people, regardless of religious background.  Such Devotional gatherings are held regularly, where individuals come together to pray, sing, and reflect on spiritual teachings. These gatherings promote unity and foster a sense of community, encouraging participants to deepen their spiritual understanding and strengthen their connection to  God.

These prayer gatherings take place in a variety of locations, including homes, places of worship, and other places. "Blessed is the spot, and the house, and the place, and the city, and the heart, and the mountain, and the refuge, and the cave, and the valley, and the land, and the sea, and the island, and the meadow where mention of God hath been made, and His praise glorified." Baha’u’llah

In homes and community centres across Ethiopia, Bahá’ís and their friends regularly gather in a spirit of unity and friendship to pray together. These occasions generate feelings of fellowship among participants and naturally lead to meaningful conversations about spiritual themes and a desire to work with others in serving humanity. Devotional gatherings are at the heart of a vibrant community life and are open for all to participate.

“Devotional meetings are occasions where any soul may enter, inhale the heavenly fragrances, experience the sweetness of prayer, meditate upon the Creative Word, be transported on the wings of the spirit, and commune with the one Beloved. Feelings of fellowship and common cause are generated, particularly in the spiritually heightened conversations that naturally occur at such times and through which the “city of the human heart” may be opened. By convening a gathering for worship at which adults and children of any background are welcome, the spirit of the Mashriqu’l-Adhkár (temple) is evoked in any locality.” Universal House of Justice

Prayer

There is nothing sweeter in the world of existence than prayer. Man must live in a state of prayer. The most blessed condition is the condition of prayer and supplication. Prayer is conversation with God. The greatest attainment or the sweetest state is none other than conversation with God.
